A Roundtable Discussion, Paint Failure, Remediation Best Practices (Water, Mold and Odor) and Waterproofing Ceramic Tile

1) Roundtable Discussion facilitated by Morgan Cohen, Education Chair  - ASHI NE Group Mastermind on ASHI NE Education

What do you want from ASHI NE Educational program? This month's round table will be a mastermind session where we will work out what kinds of activities, speakers, and programs you want to see more of in the future. This will help the ASHI Ed committee plan all the ASHI NE future educational programs, and give us all a chance to hear from you on what you want to see in ASHI NE. Bring your best ideas!

1) Paint Failure

New England housing stock poses unique challenges to the home inspector as so many substrates are covered with generations of poorly applied coatings that result in myriad forms of failure. Using photos, this presentation will review typical paint failures found on older homes, as well as typical paint failures found on newly constructed homes. Upon conclusion of the presentation, attendees should leave with a firm understanding of the dynamics that lead to coatings failure.

About Our Speaker:  Nigel Costolloe with Cathlight, Inc., identifies as a 25 year veteran of the residential painting industry – currently running a $2.5MM company based in Newton, MA. Projects include new construction and remodeled interiors for general contractors and interior designers, residential repaints for owners, historic home painting, and paint failure analysis. Board member and past Chair of the Painting Contractors of America, now Interim Executive Director as the Board searches for a new Executive Director. Married, father of two college age sons, long time Crossfitter, marathoner, triathlete, otherwise generally lazy and shiftless.

3) Water, Mold and Odor Remediation Best Practices and Ceramic Tile Waterproofing

The presentation will focus on water, mold, and odor remediation best practices and address public misinformation. The goal will be to provide insight about restoration contractors certified by the Institute for Inspection Cleaning & Restoration Certifications (IICRC). We’ll also  include a section on waterproofing for ceramic tile applications in wet areas.

About Our Speaker: Jeremy Brigham is a Boston-area native and an Air Force Veteran. He grew up in Newton and South Yarmouth. As an Air Force C-130 navigator, Captain Brigham’s leadership and attention to detail and life support training prepared him well for the adversity of a property restoration project. An 11-year career at Dal-Tile Corporation supplying material and technical training to ceramic and stone contractors followed. That became an important segway to providing full-service property restorations. That is, PuroClean of Brookline will mitigate the damage and reconstruct the property in a turn-key restoration project.

Program Approved for 3 CEUs in MA, NH and CT and for 3 CEs by ASHI
