1) Roundtable Discussion - Discussion of proposed MA legislation concerning Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST)

2) A View from the Roof, CertainTeed Corporation Overview of Asphalt Shingles, What Every Home Inspector Should Know
In this presentation we will highlight the proper installation of asphalt shingles.  Information from actual roof investigations will be included and case studies presented.  We will al
so address factors that affect and/or accelerate decay, life expectancy and age identification. Especially valuable to home inspectors, we'll review installation defects such as improper installation patterns; missing starter course, insufficient support/excessive overhang; lifted shingles; and missing ice and water shield. We'll discuss cracked shingles; buckled shingles ('fishmouths'); improper flashing installation; damaged shingles; blisters; missing drip flashing; improper ridge vents; signs of poor ventilation. We'll also talk about a very common misapplication technique that seems to predominate the industry.   At this time of year, ice dams are sure to be a topic of conversation - - how they occur and how to prevent damage to the structure.
About Our Speaker:  Steve Hern is the Field Technical Manager for CertainTeed's Roofing Products Group. For the past twenty-two years, he has investigated roofing systems relative to materials, installation, ventilation and other factors that bear upon the effective life of roofs. He is also associated with CertainTeed Solar, involved in training, installation and troubleshooting of rooftop PV systems.  Mr. Hern has a strong background in residential construction/renovation and has served as a facilities manager in commercial/industrial real estate.
